Bond Builders (i.e. Olaplex) – Best for those who are going lighter or who have fragile curls, bond builders are a two step salon process that strengthens your hair by linking broken bonds (typically broken through heat and chemicals) and preventing breakage.

First, an additive is mixed in the color/lightener to strengthen bonds and reduce breakage on fragile curls. Olaplex works while your color processes to reform those bonds. The second step is applied after your color has processed and your hair has been rinsed. It is applied as a cream and further strengthens those broken bonds. Step 2 is left on for 10-20 minutes and then followed up with a shampoo and conditioner. Step 3 is a take home product that works to continue the bond building protection begun with your in salon service and is used weakly to keep your curls strong.

Glazing (i.e. Goldwell)– Glazes work on all textures to seal the cuticle, making hair softer and shinier for about 4 weeks. Color can be added into the glaze to tone the color or a clear glaze may be used to add shine. The result is temporarily evened out porosity for your hair. Glazes are slightly simpler in application as well. Your hair is washed and a glaze is applied to the ends, combed through and usually processed by placing you under a dryer to help it to adhere to hair.

Deep treatments (i.e. Its a ten) – Deep treatments are great for almost everyone when applied correctly, they smooth the cuticle and temporarily relax frizz and expansion by hydrating thirsty hair. Thick hair seems to benefit the most when deep treatments are used weekly while finer textures may be weighed down if used more often than once a month. To use, wash hair with your favorite cleanser, rinse and then apply as follows:

Fine textured hair – apply the treatment to ends only and leave on hair for approximately 3-5 minutes. Rinse with warm water followed by a cold water rinse.

All other textures – apply a palm sized amount all over hair and comb through. Leave on for 3-5 minutes then rinse with warm water followed by a cold water rinse.
